ARTIST STATEMENT

After taking Graphic Design this semester, I really felt like I found something that I could see myself doing in the future. Learning the basics of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop was really fun and interesting as it left me fascinated over the fact that there is so much more you can do with the programs and you can use them for things that I never imagined.  I came up with most of my designs outside of class and had my peers help me revise and give me tips on how to further improve my work.  I used the Internet for ideas and advice however; as the semester went on, I found myself relying less on the Internet for inspiration, but instead on my own thoughts and imagination.

The Internet has great advice on how to make your design catch viewers’ eyes but, in my opinion, there’s no substitute for one’s imagination and imagery.  If there is one thing I learned in this class that will help me in future, it is putting my thoughts and ideas onto paper.  Whether it’s thumbnail sketches, words, color combinations, fonts, or a logo, I feel like I improved drastically in my ability express my mind through art.  Going into the class, I had little to no experience with Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.  Obviously there is a lot left to learn, but I think I got a good understanding of the basic skills that will get me started.  I definitely have a better understanding of all the little details put into designers’ work;  whether it’s graphic designers, interior designers, or even photographers!

I think my work shows people that I like simplicity.  I have always been someone who enjoys things that are to the point and easy to follow.  My goal with most of my designs was to create a sleek-looking, to the point, design that viewers did not have to look far for the purpose.  My goal in the future is to be able to help create and lead positive movements using my graphic design knowledge and skills that I have learned throughout this semester in hopes to make an impact on this world in a positive way.
